Themed, Glacier Preservation, Synergy for A Resilient Water Future, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON led Ogun State Government has held its first celebration of World Water Day in Abeokuta the state capital.
Gathered at the cinema hall of Ogun State Cultural Centre, Kuto Abeokuta to witness the event, discuss water and take action that would ensure a resilient water future were state government functionaries, representatives of ministries, agencies and departments of government, private sectors that are stakeholders in water business, community based organizations, non governmental organizations, students representatives and others.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who was represented by Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo applauded the synergy forged by the Mr Olaolu Oresanya led Ministry of Environment, and Hon. Damilola Otubanjo led Ogun State Water Corporation and other cooperating agencies of government that put together the first celebration of World Water Day by Ogun State Government.
Why listing the achievements of Ogun State Government in the area of provision of potable water for the good people of Ogun State which included the execution of AFD sponsored urban water projects, Prince Dapo Abiodun commended Ogun State Water Corporation, relevant government agencies, development partners, water experts, environmental activists, community leaders for their contributions to water management in Ogun State.
"Let us work to protect every glacier, every stream and value every drop" the Governor charged all participants at the World Water Day Celebration.
The event dovetailed into panel discussion where experts raised issues like energy and energy efficiency in water provision, deployment of State of the art technology and right technology in water management, right pricing, water treatment and water quality and other key subjects that can ensure that water is well managed going forward.
Different water and environment experts took turn to give keynote address and made educative and enlightening presentations during celebration.
The list included Commissioner for Environment in Ogun State, Mr. Ola Oresanya, Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mrs Olufunmilayo Efuwape, Special Adviser on SDGs and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, former General Manager , Ogun State Water Corporation, Engr. Mrs Cecilia Olajide.
Other notable people at the World Water Day celebration were Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, the Head of Service, Ogun State, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, represented by Permanent Secretary Bureau of Public Service Reform, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, Senior Special Assistant on Development Partners Coordination, Mr Bayo Adenekan, Consultant to the Governor on Water Resources, Alhaja Muinat Jaji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Sam Oyeneye, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Alhaji Lateef Benson.
Others are Senior Special Assistant on Environment, Pharmacist Femi Akinwunmi, Special Adviser Ogun State Waste Management Agency, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, representative of UNICEF, Mr. Monday Johnson, Special Assistant Culture and Tourism, Prince Bola Basibo, Director, Women for Peace and Gender Equality, Mrs Moji Akinsanya, Senior WASH Specialist, Mr. Adedayo Mark-Adeyemi among others.
