OGUN GOVERNMENT TO ENHANCE WATER INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE IJEBU REGION

The Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, remains committed to improving water infrastructure in Ijebu-Ode and its environs, ensuring a significant transformation in the supply of potable water across the region.

This assurance was given by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, during an assessment tour of water infrastructure in Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu-Igbo. The tour was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address the irregular supply of potable water in several Ijebu communities.

Hon. Otubanjo expressed optimism that the government’s renewed focus on the water sector would resolve long-standing issues and improve water supply across the Ijebu region.

She highlighted several challenges affecting water facilities in the area, including aging infrastructure, vandalism, and inadequate electricity supply to some water schemes. These factors, she noted, have hindered optimal functionality. "There is a lot of work to be done," she stated, adding that the government will act swiftly to rehabilitate critical water infrastructure to provide clean and safe water for residents of Ijebu-Ode and its surrounding communities.

Hon. Otubanjo assured residents that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring a steady and sustainable supply of potable water.

She further emphasized that, with a team of experts working alongside her, residents across Ogun State not only in Abeokuta but also in Ijebu, Remo, and Yewa should expect significant improvements in the water sector. She reaffirmed her team's commitment to identifying and resolving challenges in the sector.

Also speaking, the Consultant to the Governor on Water, Alhaja Muinat Jaji, urged residents to desist from polluting water sources belonging to the state’s Water Corporation. She assured the public that the Corporation remains dedicated to advocacy campaigns and public enlightenment while encouraging residents to report leakages. She also noted that the Quality Control Department consistently monitors water supply to ensure that consumers receive high-quality water.

Among the facilities visited during the tour were Yemoji Water Scheme, Ikoto Booster Station, Alapo Booster Station, and Ikangba Borehole Scheme. Others included the Apoje Water Scheme and Ago-Iwoye Borehole Scheme in Ijebu North Local Government Area.
