OGUN-CARES FADAMA HOLDS CAPACITY BUILDING FOR FARMERS, OTHERS

OGUN-CARES FADAMA has organised a capacity building workshop for leaders of farmers' groups Community Facilitators and Local FADAMA Desk Officers in Ogun-East Senatorial District, in preparation for the next phase of disbursement of inputs and assets to beneficiaries.

Declaring the event open at Akintonde Hall, Arcade Ground, Ijebu-Ode, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Samuel Adeogun, said though COVID-19 had been checkmated, its negative impact was being felt by farmers, adding that government had resolved to alleviate the plights of small holder farmers through various intervention programmes, including OG-CARES, thereby ensuring food supply and job creation.

Represented by the Director of Produce Services in the Ministry, Mr. Shomade Adedeji, the Permanent Secretary enjoined the farmers to fraternise with Extension Workers of the Ministry and Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP), for guidance and training in best agricultural practices.

Speaking, Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Alhaji Emilola Ganzalo, noted that the programme would expose the farmers to the business aspects of farming, charging them to utilise the opportunity for their benefits.

Earlier, the Acting Project Coordinator, Mr. Babatunde Beckley, advised participants to keep their records and profiling accurate for easy farm management, better yields and maximum profits.

He added that the training would enable OG-CARES team, farmers and other stakeholders to be on the same page for seamless operations, informing that those that had benefitted from the programme were still testifying to the positive effect on their dwindling farming business.

Participants were exposed to different trainings by officers from OG-CARES, who took turns to lecture them on Documentation, Profiling, Legal Matters, Service Providers and Conflict Resolutions.

Giving vote of thanks on behalf of other participants, Mr. Tunji Odusanya from Ogun Waterside, lauded government and OG-CARES for boosting their understanding of the project through the training, expressing hope that knowledge gained would aid them in turning their businesses around.

Others at the event include, Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Soji Adekoya; Chairman of Remo-North Local Government, Prince Dapo Odunsin, represented by the Supervisor of Agriculture from Ijebu-East Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Soyemi and Mr. Oniyide Abayomi from the Department of Development Partners Coordination, Ministry of Budget and Planning and many more.
