Cleric, expert preach tax compliance at Ogun IRS 1st Annual Ramadan Lecture.

   

Fulfillment of tax responsibilities through prompt payment of taxes and levies by  Muslims and Non- Muslims alike is an obligatory practice that must be strictly adhered to by all believers  as  commanded by Almighty Allah.

The Chief Imam of Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA), Sheikh Hussain Olanrewaju stated this on Thursday in Abeokuta at the 1st Annual Ramadan Lecture and Iftar put together  by Ogun State Internal Revenue Service  and hosted by the Director, Administration & Supplies of the IRS, Alhaji Tunji Abdul Akeem Kalejaye,

Speaking at the event held at the  Parastatal Mosque in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with   the theme" The importance of payment of taxes and levies: The Islamic Perspective, Sheikh Olanrewaju emphasised that it is  obligatory  for  Muslims and non-Muslims to fulfil their tax responsibilities as it is enshrined in the Holy  quran and commanded by Allah.

Citing verses from the Holy Quran, the Islamic Cleric also underscored the importance of obedience to authorities and compassion towards others.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Anthony Olaleye who was represented by the Director, Administration & Supplies of the IRS, Alhaji Tunji Abdul Akeem Kalejaye  reiterated the significance of tax compliance, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. 

He emphasized the values of compassion, empathy, and unity, which are  central to the observance of Ramadan.

Mr. Olaleye while elaborating  on the theme of the lectures further emphasised the Quran’s support for tax collection and its role in facilitating government initiatives, particularly in infrastructure development, which he said is not in any way doubtful.

Encouraging the timely payment of taxes and levies, Olaleye urged the people of Ogun State to contribute towards sustaining the state’s progress and developmental efforts through the fulfillment of their tax obligations, saying payment of taxes and levies have direct impact on the development of the society.

Present at the occasion was the  Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who was represented by Commissioner II, Teaching Service Commission, Hon Maroof Bayo Adesegun.

 Others  in attendance were the Director information Technology, Alhaji Waheed Akinfenwa,  Head, Internal Audit Mr. Rilwan Kolade, including the Chairman Planning Committee,  Ogunbona Ibrahim and his Secretary, Alhaja Sharifat Ademoye among others
