There is no doubt that one of the few achievements the PMB regime could beat its chest about is the railway revolution it aggressively berthed, leading to the effective running of commercial trains from Lagos to Ibadan as well as the Kaduna- Abuja route. Sadly, the Abuja Kaduna train services had for months been distrupted due to ferocious attack launched on the train by menacing terrorists, leading to the captivity of some of the persengers, many of whom are still in the net of the miscreants.
Happily, the Lagos-Ibadan train still runs to the delight of perssengers. It's arrival and departure are prompt and the facilities in the train are still top notch. We hope the Nigerian bug of carelessness in handling public facilities would not soon set in to blight the joy brought to us by the means of transportation.
However, my recent trip with the train from It's Ebute metta station to Abeokuta leaves me with a sad impression about the security put in place for perssengers and the facilties. Right from the ticketing points there were no security personnels feasible anywhere. There were no machines or gadgets put in place to screen persengers and their luggages to determine what they had with them. Even the huge scanners supposedly meant for such purposes were not functional and are just on display at the station for all to see. I may be wrong, but I could notice a general lax in security around the trains operation which is dangerous, especially at the time we are in the country today.
It is my hope like those of other concerned petssengers that this issue is addressed urgently to avoid "stories that touches" after which we would be taking remedial measures as we are often wont to do..
