The Vice Chancellor of the Crescent University, Abeokuta Professor Ibrahim Gbajabiamila says insecurity is a national and governance issue that concerns every Nigerian.
He. made the remark while speaking on the issue of insecurity in Nigeria during an interview in his office in Abeokuta.
Professor Gbajabiamila said “insecurity concerns all of us,” because the present situation in the country such as kidnapping and ritual killing have made it difficult for people to be sure of their safety.
He added that everyone in the country has to be concerned to improve the security of the nation, thereby making it conducive for children to learn and people to live in.
The University administrator pointed out that universities can also contribute solutions to solve the issues in the country by having an educated workforce, and an army and police that would be able to see that they have to protect the country.
When asked for the reasons the country was not getting any responses from the universities in terms of creating solutions to problems in the country, professor Gbajabiamila challenged the statement by saying that universities provide solutions, saying the situation is appalling because they are relegated and not consulted.
He continued by saying that anywhere in the world, academics is at the forefront but in Nigeria, the academics that can contribute to the countries problems have been underused because “ an average politicians are not in favour of the academics and we have moved in terms of judgment to monetary ”.
